About us
You deal with me, start to finish.
I am Gary Kral. I run Heartland Pure Water Co across the Wichita metro — softening, carbon filtration and reverse osmosis drinking water. I do the assessment, I give you the number, and I am still the person who answers when you call about it in three years. The install is done by my plumber.
Our story
I know what is in the water here, and I can show you.
Wichita does not have one water. The city blends Cheney Reservoir with the Equus Beds aquifer, and the two do not measure the same — USGS has the reservoir between 130 and 220 mg/L and the monitored aquifer wells higher still. Outside the mains it changes again. I keep the published data for the supplies around here so that when I tell you what is in your water, I can show you where the figure came from.
That matters more than it sounds. A lot of what gets told to homeowners about their water is a sales figure repeated until it sounds like a fact. I spent my career in auditing before this, which is a job that trains you to ask where a number came from, and I have not stopped asking.
What people ask me first
About half the people I sit down with bring up the price before I do. They have been quoted $6,000 to $8,000 by a national company and mine is roughly half that. Asking why is the right thing to do, so here is the answer.
So here is the answer. It is the same class of equipment — the same softener, the same carbon filtration, the same reverse osmosis. What is missing from my number is a showroom, a fleet of wrapped trucks, a franchise fee going upstairs on every sale, and a commissioned salesman whose pay goes up with yours. I do not carry those costs, so you do not pay for them. And I have a job, so this business does not have to be priced as though it is feeding my family.
If something about my equipment were worse than theirs, I would rather tell you now than have you find out in year three. Ask me the make, the grain capacity and the warranty on the phone. It is the same answer either way.
And I will not quote you a number I made up
Wichita blends two sources. USGS measured hardness at Cheney Reservoir at 130 to 220 mg/L as calcium carbonate across 44 samples, and the Equus Beds aquifer higher still at the monitored wells. The city has built a new treatment plant that will be able to run either source on its own, and it is not in service yet — so that is a change still ahead of us rather than one behind us. I tried to get the city’s own tap figure for this website and the city’s site would not let me read it — so there is no tap figure on this website, because I have not seen one.
That is why the assessment happens on the phone before anybody talks about equipment, and why I bring the published water data for your supply with me rather than a test kit. It takes a short call, it costs nothing, and it is the only answer that describes your house instead of your zip code.

What we stand on
Three things I do not bend on
I look before I recommend
The assessment is free and it stays free whether you buy anything or not. I bring the public water data for your supply so you see the real figures, not a sales sheet with a scary number on it.
One all-in number
Taxes in, install in, given to you before anything is ordered. No line items that appear later, and no three-hour sit-down at your kitchen table.
I will tell you when the answer is no
Sometimes the water is fine and the water heater is simply old. I would rather say that than sell you a system that changes nothing. I do not have a quota and nobody pays me a commission.
